Edward Said and the Oriental Subject

On the heels of our previous discussion about Spivak’s subaltern subject comes Said’s Oriental subject.

Did you feel awkward watching Disney’s Aladdin in some parts?

Do you know someone who still says “Orientals”?

Have you come across MRAs with “yellow fever” for the ideal submissive oriental female?

Lets talk about it and “the traces of … the culture whose domination has been so powerful a factor in the life of all Orientals” with Edward Said who wrote the book on Orientalism…literally: Orientalism.

Please read the introduction and first section of Chapter One of Orientalism.
